Earlier in their careers, our founders Calvin and Jenny Wilder worked with many small businesses who struggled to get good results from their bookkeeping and accounting function. SmartBooks was born in 2009 out of our founders’ belief that small businesses deserved more and that there had to be a better way. Calvin helped lead the rise of outsourced managed services in the IT industry, and he believed there was a similar opportunity in the bookkeeping and accounting industry to help businesses get more out of their investment in bookkeeping and accounting. He set out to build the combination of people, technology, systems and processes to deliver accurate, reliable and insightful bookkeeping, accounting, and related services to small and midsize businesses.
Our purpose is to enable business owners to do what they love. For some clients, this means growing a large and valuable company that can be sold. For others, this means freeing up time each week to spend on fun and family activities. For all clients, this means freeing them from bookkeeping and accounting activities that get in the way of more valuable work, while at the same time providing them reports and metrics they can use to run their businesses.
